Jemma has currently been offered an amazing opportunity to represent team South Africa in the American Dance Championships which will be held in Hollywood from the 8th to the 19th of October 2018.

Born in the West side of Johannesburg, Jemma Harris has always been a dancer at heart. She started dancing at the age of 2 years old and has a total of 55 medals in different genres of dance including 7 golds for Acro dance.

Jemma’s dance teacher Jackie McGinn at the J&C dance Creations in Weltervreden Park Roodeport said the following when asked what Acro dance style was:

“Acro dance style is a very technical style of dancing that includes classical dance as well as the representation of precision acrobatic elements. Most people call it Acrobatics but the correct term is Acro dance style.”

Dance teacher Jackie in dubiously stated that Acro dance style seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics which is dependent on the dancer’s athletic abilities in order for him or her to execute the unique yet immensely difficult Acro dance choreography.

In July 2018 Jemma Harris represented team South Africa at The American Dance Awards in Miami Florida, where she participated in a total of 4 dance routines.

Jemma received one Silver medal in her Contemporary dance solo and one Gold medal for her solo Acro dance style routine.

She also participated in two group routines and her group received a special award for their precision and Acrobatic ability.

Their Choreographer/ dance teacher Tamzin “Tammy” Stone, is extremely proud of her students.

Teacher “Tammy” said the following during an interview: “ I am so blessed to have such a young group of talented girls that represent my passion for dance as well as they do. Some of my students have been chosen to represent team South Africa at the Hollywood, American Dance Awards Championships later this year in October and I am extremely proud of them.”

I’m Jemma is one of the students that have been chosen to represent team South Africa in October 2018.

Unfortunately every dancer under the age of 18 needs to travel with one family member and provide for his or her own flights, accommodation and food during the duration of the competition which will be from the 8th to the 19th of October 2018.

Jemma’s mother Nicole Atwell Harris said she is extremely proud of her daughter for being able to juggle her grade 3 school work and her demanding dance schedule.

Mrs Harris also stated that it is very costly to travel all the way to Hollywood for Jemma’s dance Competitions and that if anyone is able or willing to help her with a travel sponsorship they should contact her on the following number 0721501611
